Abstract


This research is a Classroom Action Research which conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection stage. The research was conducted class XI Mechanical Engineering academic year 2014/2015. Data obtained through field observations, interviews, achievement test (pre-test cycle, the first cycle and second cycle) and documentation. This study uses comparative descriptive data analysis techniques. It shows that the implementation of cooperative learning model Think Pair Share (TPS) improves the student critical thinking skills and learning outcomes at class XI Mechanical Engineering academic year of 2014/2015 in the subjects of Lathe Machining. In the pre-cycle stage where conventional method was used, it is found that the critical thinking skills and learning outcomes is quite low. When the cooperative learning model Think Pair Share (TPS) was applied, the student critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes increase eventhough it was still under the research target of 70% on each of the indicators of critical thinking skills and a minimum of 70% of students completed the minimum mastery criteria (≥75). The target value of critical thinking skills and learning outcomes in the second cycle until been reached the intended target. An increase in the percentage of students who passed the minimum mastery criteria of pre-cycle of 34.375% to 78.125% in the second cycle or an increase of 43.75%.
