Tujuan penelitian ini adalah: (1) untuk mendeskripsikan langkah-langkah penerapan metode student facilitator and explaining dengan multimedia dalam meningkatkan pembelajaran  IPA tentang bumi dan alam semesta pada siswa kelas V SDN Singosari tahun ajaran 2014/ 2015, (2) untuk mendeskripsikan peningkatan pembelajaran IPA tentang bumi dan alam semesta, dan (3) untuk mendeskripsikan kendala yang dihadapi dan solusinya dalam peningkatan pembelajaran IPA.

Penelitian ini merupakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas kolaboratif, yang dilaksanakan dalam 3 siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari: perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan, dan refleksi. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa teknik observasi, wawancara, dan tes. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas V SDN Singosari Tahun Ajaran 2014/2015 yang berjumlah 32 siswa.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, metode SFAE dengan multimedia dapat meningkatkan pembelajaran IPA tentang bumi dan alam semesta. Hal ini dibuktikan pada siklus I, persentase ketuntasan siswa mencapai 79,1%, dengan persentase proses pembelajaran guru 84,7% dan siswa 81,9%. Pada siklus II, persentase ketuntasan siswa mencapai 91,9%, dengan persentase proses pembelajaran guru 96,1% dan siswa 92,7%, dan pada siklus III, persentase ketuntasan siswa mencapai 98,4%, dengan persentase proses pembelajaran guru 97,6% dan siswa 96,1%.

Simpulan penelitian ini adalah: (1) langkah-langkah penerapan metode SFAE dengan multimedia dalam peningkatan pembelajaran IPA tentang bumi dan alam semesta pada siswa kelas V SDN  Singosari tahun ajaran 2014/ 2015 yaitu: (a) pendahuluan; (b) penyampaian kompetensi; (c) penugasan; (d) penyampaian hasil; (e) kesimpulan; (f) penutup; (2) pembelajaran IPA tentang bumi dan alam semesta melalui metode SFAE dengan multimedia mengalami peningkatan; dan (3) kendalanya, guru belum hafal langkah-langkah metode SFAE, penguasaan multimedia, penerapan langkah metode yang belum berurutan, guru mendominasi pembelajaran, dan penyampaian materi terlalu cepat. Solusinya adalah guru mempelajari lebih dalam metode SFAE, peneliti membimbing guru menggunakan multimedia, siswa lebih dilibatkan dalam pembelajaran, kompetensi disampaikan dengan jelas, penyampaian materi tidak terlalu cepat.

The objectives of this research are: (1) to describe steps of the application of the student facilitator and explaining method with multimedia in improving natural science about the earth and the universe for the fifth grade student of SDN Singosari in the academic year of 2014/2015, (2) to describe the improvement of natural science learning about the earth and the universe, and (3) to describe the problems and solutions in improving natural science learning.

This research is a collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in three cycles. Each cycle consists of: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques were observation, interviews, and tests. Subjects in this research were all students of fifth grade in SDN Singosari in the academic year of 2014/2015 totalling 32 students.

The results show that the SFAE method using multimedia can improve natural science learning about the earth and the universe. This is evidenced in the first cycle that the percentage of students mastery was 79.1%, with the percentage of the learning process of teachers 84.7% and students 81.9%. In the second cycle, the percentage of students mastery was 91.9%, with the percentage of the learning process of teachers 96.1% and students 92.7%, and in the third cycle, the percentage of students mastery was 98.4%, with a percentage of the learning process of teachers 97.6% and students 96.1%.

The conclusions of this research are: (1) the steps of application of the SFAE methods using multimedia in improving natural science learning about the earth and the universe for the fifth grade student of SDN Singosari in the academic year of 2014/2015, namely: (a) introduction; (b) deliver the competency; (c) give assignment; (d) deliver the results; (e) conclusion; (f) closing; (2) natural science learning about the earth and the universe using SFAE methods through multimedia has increased; and (3) problems in this research were: the teacher has not memorized the steps of SFAE method, multimedia mastery, the implementation of the method was not in sequence, the teacher dominated the learning, and the delivery of materials was too fast. Solutions for those problems are the teacher should learn more the SFAE methods, researchers guide the teacher to use multimedia, the teacher involved students in learning, deliver the competence and materials clearly and normally.
