PENERAPAN MODEL PEMBELAJARAN PBI (PROBLEM BASED INSTRUCTION) UNTUK MENINGKATKAN KETERAMPILAN PEMECAHAN MASALAH SISWA SEKOLAH DASAR

Abstract


The innovation concept in teaching social studies in elementary school, one of which has been poured in curriculum content standards of KTSP (Education Unit Level Curriculum) in 2006. One of the competencies to be developed is a thinking of problem solving skills.  But in reality, these skills have not been much touched and developed. Teachers' difficulty in helping students to mastery the competencies associated with the introduction of the social problems that occur in the neighborhood of teachers in the learning process. The problems that happen in SDN Kebraon I/436 Surabaya related to this. This study uses a Class Action Research is focused on improving students' problem-solving skills through the application of learning models of PBI (Problem Based Instruction). In general, students feel challenged and declared more easily understand the material to be mastered. Data obtained in this study include the activities of teachers and students, improved problem-solving skills, problems encountered and the acquisition of learning achievement through the application of PBI learning models. The test results showed the increasing of students' problem-solving skills include skills in finding the problem, identify problems, formulate hypotheses, hypotheses test using data sources and relevant information and draw conclusions. While the acquisition of learning achievement in the form of mastery of problem solving showed improvements ranging from cycle I, cycle II and cycles III, which amounted to 66.66%, 77.77%, and 88.8%.  In addition, learning achievement in this study include an increased ability of student's attitude include (1) a caring attitude, namely the ability of students to further develop sensitivity, concern and curiosity toward social issues contained in the student environment. Through planting and develop the caring attitude, it is expected that students trained and accustomed to want to know, recognize and seek alternative solutions to the problems, (2) the attitude of responsibility, namely the students' ability to know their rights and obligations as social beings. This Attitude is important in shaping the student's character to always be responsible for themselves, their families and communities, (3) the empathy attitude, namely the students' ability to be able to learn to understand the other person and feel what happened to someone else.
