Abstract


Abstract: The research objective in this study was to determine the improvement of student learning achievement with jigsaw cooperative learning and asterisks on fifth-grade students of Tirtomarto 1 State Elementary School Cawas Klaten in the first semester of the academic year 2017/2018. The study was conducted at SD Negeri 1 Tirtomarto Cawas Klaten. The research method was carried out using Classroom Action Research (CAR) methods. This classroom action research is carried out in three cycles in a continuous manner. Each cycle is carried out by planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting to find out the effectiveness of the action. Data analysis in this study was carried out in a qualitative descriptive manner supported by quantitative analysis. Based on the analysis it can be concluded that the application of jigsaw cooperative learning models and asterisks can improve the reading skills of fifth-grade students of Tirtomarto Cawas Klaten Elementary School. This is evidenced by the results obtained from observations on student activities during the learning in
the first cycle of 58.69%, 69.13% in the second cycle, and in the third cycle 76.05%. While the average test of students' reading skills at baseline was 62.08 with a classical completeness level of 34.78%. In the first cycle, the average score of students' reading skills was 65.65 with a classical completeness level of 47.82%. In cycle II, the
mean value of students' reading skills was 69.26 with a classical completeness level of 69.56%. In the third cycle the average value of student skills was 77.17 with a classical completeness level of 86.95%.
