Abstract


This research aimed to improve learning motivation and critical thinking skills of students through the application of Problem Based Learning (PBL) and video media learning models in history. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which is conducted in two cycles, each cycle consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection of action. The subjects of the research were students of class XI IPS 4 Ngemplak 1 High School, which amount 41 students. Data sources come from teachers and students. The technique of data collection are by observation, interview, questionnaire, evaluation test, and documentation. Data validity was tested using data triangulation techniques and triangulation method. Data analysis was carried out with a comparative descriptive analysis method and interactive analysis method.

The results of the research shows that: 1) The application of learning with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) and video media models can improve the learning motivation of XI IPS 4 students at SMA Negeri 1 Ngemplak. This is indicated by the increasing of the percentage that has a high number of learning motivations in the category of 43.90% in pre-cycle, increased to 53.66% in cycle I, and 85.37% in cycle II. The achievement of the percentage of learning motivation has exceeded the target achievement indicator that has been set at ≥80%. 2) The application of historical learning to the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with video media can improve the critical thinking skills of XI IPS 4 students at SMA Negeri 1 Ngemplak. This is indicated by the increasing of the percentage of high categories resulting from the evaluation of students' critical thinking skills, namely 17.07% in pre-cycle, increased to 58.54% in the first cycle, and 80.49% in the second cycle. The achievement of the percentage of critical thinking ability has met the indicator target in this study, which is ≥80%. Based on the results of the research it can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model with video media is able to increase learning motivation and critical thinking skills of XI IPS 4 students at SMA Negeri 1 Ngemplak.
