Abstract


The objectives of this research are to investigate (1) whether or not there is a correlation between the teacher’s competency and the learning interest of the students on the competency of Handling Letters and Documents; (2) whether or not there is a correlation between the learning resource availability and the learning interest on the competency of Handling Letters and Documents, and (3) whether or not there is a correlation of the teacher’s competency and the learning resource availability to the learning interest on the competency of Handling Letters and Documents of the students in Grade X of Office Administration Study Program of Muhammadiyah Vocational High School 1 of Sragen. This research used the descriptive quantitative research method. Its population was all of the students in Grade X of Office Administration Study Program of the school consisting of 85 students of three classes. The samples of research consisted of 70 and they were taken by using proportional random sampling technique. The data of research were collected through questionnaire and analyzed by using the multiple regression analysis. The results of research are as follows: (1) there is not any correlation between the teacher’s competency and the students’ learning interest on the competency of Handling Letters and Documents as indicated by the value correlation coefficient of 0.132 with the significance value = 0.275 (p > 0.05); (2) there is not any correlation between the learning resource availability  and the students’ learning interest on the competency of Handling Letters and Documents as signified by the value correlation coefficient of -0.125 with the significance value = 0.304 (p > 0.05); and (3) there is not any correlation of the teacher’s competency and the learning resource availability to the students’ learning interest on the competency of Handling Letters and Documents as pointed out by F­count = 1.325 with the probability value (sig.) = 0.273. The value of Fcount = 1.325 is greater than that of Ftable =2.74, and the significance value = 0.273 is greater than the probability value = 0.05. The relative contribution of the teacher’s competency (X1) and the learning resource (X2) to the learning interest (Y) is 3.8%. The effective contributions of the teacher’s competency (X1) and the learning resource availability (X2)to the learning interest of the students are 1.7%, and 1.6% respectively.
