The Social Science learning particulary History learning generally aims at improving nationalism and history awareness so that each person is proud of his or her nation and state. Therefore, it is the task of History teachers to develop the history awareness and nationalism of students, and applying the cooperative learning model of the Picture and Picture type with the use of pictures is one of the efforts to fulfill the idea. The objective of this research is to improve the learning result and history awareness of students through applying the cooperative learning model of the Picture and Picture type with the use of pictures in the Social Science learning.
This research used classroom action research with three cycles. Reflection was done in each cycle so as to the success of treatments done. The result of treatmens with the application of the Picture and Picture type shows that the implementation of such a learning model is effective to improve the learning result and history awareness of students as indicated by the improvement in the average scores of the learning result and history awareness of students. Following the treatments, the average scores of their learning result and history awareness are 63.25 and 63.9 with the classical learning completeness of 60% in Cycle I, 68.8 and 65.9 with the classical learning completeness of 70% in Cycle II, and 72.8 and 67.8 with the classical learning completeness of 85% respectively.
Thus, a conclusion is drawn that the Social Science learning which uses the cooperative learning model of the Picture and Picture type with the use of pictures can improve the learning result and history awareness of students as indicated by the improvement in the learning result and history awareness in each cycle.
